Terrible News 02/06/2009

Nah, just kidding! We all apologize for not serving everyone with regular updates, things have been pretty tight for everyone. But we're not here to explain why we didn't update the blog for such a long period of time, but to update you instead.

First of all, the project isn't dead and some things have changed.

Redesigning the Engine
We've decided to redesign the engine so it can load games from plain text files, making them highly portable. If we ever wanted to port a game, we would just port the engine without touching the actual game code.

Introduction of the Editor
This editor will allow everyone to modify or create their own RPGs right on their desktops. Since the editor will run on Mac OS X, Windows and Linux, we will be forced to also port the engine to these platforms; you can enjoy the games right on your desktop too.

Conclusion
If the project would had died, there would be a real "Terrible News" blog post. Well that's all for now, hopefully we wont disappear like we previously did.

It's been a while since a blog post here! Bet you were already missing us? Maybe you weren't... oh well! Anyways I posted the character profiles for your reading pleasure, have fun!

Verk is the game's primary protagonist and an honoroble warrior of the Toke Group. Verk is very rational and mature when it comes to taking decisions.

Arcanos is just a mysterious traveler that is accompanying Verk in his journey of truth. Never speaks about himself and avoids unnecessary contact with others.

Axe is a man that lives in the mountains, he's always training to become physically stronger. He is a man that believes in honor and second opportunities.

Xiolane is a character which looks weak but her magical abilities are nothing near weak. She has the ability to summon the mysterious Ionites. She has ocassional mood swings.

Ionites are born from souls that have failed to pass on to the next world, each soul has its own unique reason for not being able to rest in peace.

What can I say? I've missed doing blog posts and of course my readers! So I decided to answer some questions that I've seen around the web.

Will Quinta Essentia come in "place language here"?
Oui, si, ja, nai, sim, hai, yes it will come in many languages, but we will need your help to make this possible.

Do we love John Stamos?
I don't but Xulap and DimensionT do.

Will Quinta Essentia be open source?
I haven't made up my mind yet.

Will there be a public beta of the game?
Testing has been kept private/local and it possibly will remain that way.

Bad News
The programmer has been having some computer problems for the last month... it seems his computer has a faulty "logic board". He will be receiving a replacement board this month from Apple.

Good News
The team behind this project hasn't given up and have been very loyal to it as they continuously work on the music and graphics. Here are some new screenshots which partially reflect the current progress of this project.

Here is the first set of screenshots for the curious people. We already have collision detection, map scrolling, message boxes, sprite animation and we're working on the battle system. Remember that everything here is work in progress which means this isn't the final product.
